BASE is a dedicated platform for undergraduate students and graduates with a mission to:
- Provide a platform for *Black students and graduates to connect, build solidarity and collective activism to challenge Whiteness within the institutional culture of higher education institutions.
- Develop mutual understanding and support among Black students and graduates both within BASE and the wider student community.
- Provide *mentorship for Black students and graduates from established academics within the Black British Academics network.
- Provide opportunities for Black students and graduates to develop research skills with support from established academics within Black British Academics to enable them to participate in research projects.
*Black is used here politically and conceptually as a term of empowerment and is inclusive of students from all racialised minority backgrounds (African, Caribbean, Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Chinese, dual heritage etc.). While it is accepted that these groups are heterogeneous, we are united as a strategy to foster unity and collaboration.
*Please note that mentors are arranged through Black British Academics – please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to work with one of the mentors listed.
